I wanted to make my good friend Carla something special and sparkly for her birthday. She’s a beautiful, happy person who loves nature and all things turquoise and purple.
So I thought I’d crochet her a butterfly. It is loosely based on a pattern from the wonderful book, 75 Birds, Butterflies and Beautiful Beasties to Knit & Crochet by Lesley Stanfield.
I changed the yarn and colour scheme suggested and customised my butterfly by sewing on lots of coloured glass beads.
The yarn I used was Rowan Cotton Glace, left over from my Japanese Flowers. It’s a silky 4 ply which creates a really nice finish in crochet.
I turned the butterfly into a brooch by backing it with brown felt and attaching a large safety-pin to the back of it.
